THE PRACTICAL DETAILS
From download
to your next design.
No account needed. Download a font, extract the ZIP and install the desktop file. Keep the included license with your files.
01 / GET STARTED
Choose the right file.
In every ZIP. Install this file for desktop apps.
Only in some ZIPs (SEREVA, Thornrose, Softbloom, Backline). Install TTF or OTF, not both.
Included with some fonts. Add it to your website instead of installing it.
Each font page shows exactly which files its ZIP contains. Two-style families include one file per style; install each style you need.
Windows
- Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All.
- Open the extracted TTF file and choose Install.
- Restart your design app. Search its font menu for the family name in the download’s README.
macOS
- Double-click the ZIP to extract it.
- Open the TTF file in Font Book and choose Install.
- Restart your design app and choose the font family.
02 / COMMON QUESTIONS
A few things to check.
The font does not appear in my app.
Extract the ZIP first, install the TTF, then restart the app. Search for the family name shown on the font page. Online editors such as Canva or Figma need their own font upload.
I see an old version or a duplicate.
Remove the older installation of that family, install the new TTF and restart the app. Don’t install the TTF and OTF of the same style together.
Some characters show up as boxes.
That character isn’t in the font. Check the character set on the font page. JFFF fonts don’t include Hangul, Cyrillic or Greek.
Where are Bold and Italic?
Most JFFF fonts have one style. A Bold or Italic button fakes it and distorts the letters, so leave both off.
Ligatures or alternate letters don’t appear.
Turn on standard ligatures and kerning in your app. Alternates, where a font has them, are listed on its page (for example ss01).
Can I use the font for a client project?
Yes. Personal and commercial use are free under the SIL Open Font License. See the license summary.
03 / WEB USE
Using it on a website.
If the ZIP includes WOFF2, host that file with your site and load it with @font-face and font-display: swap. Keep the OFL license with the files.
